Core Requirements

Students complete at least 120 credits to graduate, including 49 credits in the major. All required courses must be taken A-F and a grade of at least C- is required in foundation, professional and program areas.

  • MATH 1031 - College Algebra and Probability (3 cr- F & S)
    or MATH 1142 - Short Calculus (3 cr- F & S)
    or MATH 1271 – Calculus I, (4 cr F & S)
  • HORT 1001 - Plant Propagation (4 cr- F & S)
  • HORT 1015 –Woody & Herbaceous Plants (4 cr- F)
  • HORT 3005 - Environmental Effects on Horticultural Crops (4 cr- S)
  • HORT 4096 - Professional Experience Program (1 cr; can be repeated once for 2 credits total- F & S)
  • HORT 2100 – Agricultural Biochemistry (3 cr F)
    or BIOC 3021 – Biochemistry (3 cr F & S)
  • HORT 4401 – Plant Genetics and Breeding (4 cr S)
    or HORT 4071W – Applications of Biotechnology to Plant Improvement (4 cr F)
  • SOIL 2125 - Basic Soil Science (4 cr- F & S)

Students are required to complete one of the following course groups:
1. Business Option

Plus, take 3 or more from the following:
  • HORT 4461 Horticultural Marketing (3 cr – F)
  • MGMT 3001 Fundamentals of Management (3 cr – F/S/Sum)
  • MGMT 3010 Introduction to Entrepreneurship (4 cr – F/S)
  • APEC 1251 Principles of Accounting (3 cr – F&S) OR
  • ACCT 2050 Introduction to Financial Reporting (4 cr – F/S/Sum)
  • STAT 3011 Introduction to Statistical Analysis (4 cr – F/S/Sum) OR
  • MS 2550 Business Statistics (4 cr – F/S/Sum
2. Science Option
Take all three courses:
  • CHEM 1022 - Principles of Chemistry II (4 cr- F & S)
  • CHEM 2301 - Organic Chemistry (3 cr- F & S)
  • PHYS 1101W - Introductory College Physics (4 cr- F & S)
