Low Maintenance Turfgrass Trials
Ecology Lawn Mix, Fleur de Lawn, and No Mow mixtures of cool season grasses and forbs performed as well as conventional low maintenance cool season grasses when rated for color, cover and overall appearance. Materials were rated for three years at two Minnesota locations, using no pesticides or irrigation, with 2", 4" and no-mowing treatments and three fertility levels. Mixtures containing perennial ryegrass provided the best cover with minimal weed competition. The 2" height of cut was not significantly better than the 4" height of cut for any material in this study. This research provides more choices for homeowners and commercial grounds personnel looking for acceptable turfgrasses with minimal inputs. This study was published in the Journal of Turfgrass Management: Meyer, M. H. and B. Pedersen. 1999. Low Maintenance Alternative Turfgrass Trials. Journal of Turfgrass Management. Vol 3(2) 49-57.
