Extension:

Minnesota Master Gardener Program

Started Program in 1976 by providing leadership to the planning and implementation of    this volunteer program.
Continue to provide leadership to this program in the areas of planning, core course    operation, updates, etc.

Provide presentations to the core courses, updates, tri-state meetings and county    programs as need/requested.
Serve as a resource person for Master Gardeners, Extension Educators and others in the    area of general horticulture.
Continue to work with Dr. Mary Meyer and Linda Wasem as part of the State Master Gardener staff concerning day-to-day operation of the program.
Continue to serve on the Master Gardener Advisory Board since its formation.
Provide Leadership to special Master Gardener functions such as the State Fair Booth, etc.
Provide leadership to the Master Gardener vegetable variety trials and evaluation.

Consumer Answering

Provide information to staff members of the University Plant information Clinic as    requested.
Provide information to industry personnel in the areas of woody landscape plants,    maintenance, tree care, etc.  This includes personnel in the nursery and landscape    industry, tree service, arborists, municipal, county and state employees.
Provide information to Arboretum clientele and other visitors to the Arboretum.

Extension Activities, Programs, and Committees

·         Co-Chair of the Extension Horticulture specialization team, 1998-2000

·         Member Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course Program Planning Committee, 1994-        Present

·         Serve as a presenter and/or resource to various organizations on many horticulture topics.

·         Presenting University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum plant research information to    the industry and gardening public.

·         Utilization of mass media for Extension education Interviews on call-in radio programs

·         Interviews and answers for newspaper articles

·         Taped sessions for television programs, cable TV and Prairie Yard and Garden

·         Write articles for publication in periodicals and newsletters

·         Periodically answer Master Gardener questions on the Master Gardener Listserve.

·         Committee member to plan innovative programs dealing with current issues such as    messy trees in the landscape.

·         Planning Committee member and presenter for the 6th National Urban Tree Conference,    Minneapolis, 1992-1993.

·         Presenter at the National Christmas Tree Growers Conference, Minneapolis, 1986.
