Minors are an exceptional option for broadening your education to include additional areas of study. While constructed to be flexible, minors offer a more focused path of study that includes official recognition on your University of Minnesota transcript. They can also help set you apart from other job applicants once you graduate. Minors offered through the Department of Horticultural Science or that may be of special interest for Environmental Horticulture majors:

Horticultural Science Minor
For students majoring in another subject but who want to learn more about plants and their use in the landscape, this minor is ideal. Students take three required courses and choose an additional three electives that are tailored to further develop their interests and goals.

Management Minor
Offered through the Carlson School of Management, this minor is open to all students at the University. It provides a broad exposure to the basic elements of business and management. A great option for students looking to start their own business.

Sustainable Agriculture Minor
Offered through COAFES in partnership with the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture (MISA), this minor is geared toward students interested in sustainable and organic production practices as well as policy issues. It allows students to study the sustainability of food systems from an integrated perspective, including coursework, practical experience, and community reflection. Students are also strongly encouraged to get involved with the Cornercopia, the Student Organic Farm.

International Agriculture, Learning Abroad and Global Studies Minors
Due to the international nature of horticulture and food systems, as well as the interdependence of environmental systems, Environmental Horticulture students are strongly encouraged to incorporate an international experience into their academic degree program. All of these minors allow students to go even further and formalize these experiences as a complementary part of their studies.

Entomology Minor
This minor provides students with a strong foundation in entomology while exploring entomological theories and principles. A great fit and very complementary for students pursuing studies in plant and horticultural sciences.
