Dr. Ascher teaches crop-plant evolution. He is interested in the reproductive biology of angiosperms, with emphasis on mate discrimination within and gene
exchange between taxa. Subjects currently under investigation include the effects of complex intertaxa hybridization on barriers to gene exchange (congruity
backcrossing), cytoplasmic control of gene expression, and the origin of new species. Dr. Ascher is a member of the horticulture and plant breeding graduate
faculty.

Courses Taught:
Hort 1036 Plant Propagation
Hort 8023 Evolution of Crop Plants
